Fitting In #2, Necklace, 2017, Jade, greywacke, cord

I am interested in cultural identities and the feelings of belonging and displacement in our increasingly globalised world.
This work is inspired by a simple children’s toy – a pegboard and hammer. As a person with a mixed cultural background I often feel like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole.
The materials chosen reflect my cultural heritage, greywacke from New Zealand and jade from China.
