EMILY GRIMBLE

United Kingdom, London, CSM (Central St. Martins), 2017

Taking inspiration from intricately spun cocoons, the series plays on the juxtaposition between a seemingly fragile appearance and a strength in materiality. The series is intentionally subtle, it aims to draw the viewer in for closer inspection and is an abstract representation of a cycle of process, a process which evolves as one element overtakes the other – in this case the wrappings of wire covering the twisted, buckling wire beneath. The hand-embroidered tag on a dress maker’s pin reveals material and technical information about the necklaces. By incorporating elements of the process into the final outcome I aim to emphasise the value I place on it and how, in this case, the process has directly informed the outcome.
