EMI FUKUDA

Germany, Munich, Akademie der Bildenden Künste, 2017

This piece was formed from the ground. It grew and then morphed into butterfly-like creatures. The swarm of butterflies implies harmony, movement and the passage of time in space. They move into a new world of freedom and destiny. The base of the piece was formed in layers like sediment. It becomes a mediator, connecting the wearer to society and to the world. My approach to making jewellery is organic, exploring my materials and their capabilities. Here I have focused on aluminium casting, a metamorphic process that emerges as a metaphor of life.
